They say every dog has his day, and clearly this is it. Animals have been used in fashion for a while, but more often as an accessory to the shoot, remember Bvglari? Or Riccardo Tisci with the Rottweiler on his shoulders? Of course these types of images have caused a controversial stir but we’ll leave that for another post. For now the use of animals as models has become quite the trend. The first and best in my book goes to Menswear Dog. Not only is this Shiba Inu impeccably styled, but he’s an original. Later on people took his cue and presented their own dogs dressed up for their blogs but they didn’t quite nail it. Menswear Dog has gone on to collaborate with some other fantastic brands and reached a bit of cult status since. It wasn’t long before a fashion brand took hold of their idea and ran with it. Acne, with the help of William Wegman captured some Weimaraners for ss13 and a year later Trussardi, for their ss14 campaign, chose the elegant physique of the greyhound as their model and succeeded. It’s debatable whether or not the blogging use of animals has any staying power but they make pretty great models in these campaigns, that’s for sure. I don’t know, maybe it’s true. Fashion really may have gone to the dogs.
